I have an Iridium 9555 with over 1,900 minutes. Minutes are anywhere from $1.50 to $2.00 a minute. They don't expire until September of 2010.

Iridium is the only Satellite Phone provider that will give you service anywhere in the world from the North Pole to the South Pole, as long as you get an 80% +/- view of the sky. While on my way back from Afghanistan, I did make a phone call from a Boeing 757 at cruising altitude, while holding the antenna next to the tiny window.
