I have the opprtunity to get a Globalstar GSP-1700 satellite phone for $300. I fish 30 - 50 miles out of PC/SI and go to the Bahamas a few times per year. I have heard that the Globalstars are hit and miss with coverage, not sure how true that is today. Just trying to find out if it is worth $350 to get the phone? Also, does anyone know what the monthly recurring cost is ...

I just received my R290 satellite phone from *e1* on Ebay and after wasting 3-4 hours trying to get it to work in satellite mode, it now makes and receives sat calls.

However I think there may be a problem with the charging system or the batteries may be suspect, so I have a couple of questions I am hoping you can answer in order to isolate the problem.

1. Does the phone power up ...
