Unblock Iridium

The default PIN code is 1111. Do not change the default PIN until you are familiar with using the unit. If you loose the new PIN the unit will "block" itself after 3 bad PIN attempts. This is an anti-theft protection. To "unblock" you must get a PUK code from the Iridium Service Provider or Iridium Operations Center (Iridium help desk 1-866-947-4348 (toll free from US land line) or from international 480-752-5155) and follow the following procedure (also published in the owner's manual):

How to Unblock an Iridium SIM Card in a 9500/9505/9505a or 9522-P/TP Handset

If you enter your pin number incorrectly three times on any Iridium unit then the phone is deactivated and simply displays "Blocked" on the screen.

Use the following steps to enable the phone again:

1. Switch on the telephone
2. Using the handset keypad enter the following sequence * * 0 5 *
3. Enter the PUK 1 code from the SIM CARD information sheet (stapled to the SIM when you were sent it)
4. Press 'OK'
5. You will be prompted to enter a new PIN Code. Choose a 4 digit number (1111 is the default)
6. Repeat the entry of this number when prompted.
7. The LCD display will now show 'COMPLETED'

PUK stands for PIN Unblocking Key. It is a code that allows access to a SIM that has been blocked by successive false PIN entries.

UNBLOCK IRIDIUM PHONE (BLOCKED and !BLOCKED)

Postby sat_phone_expert » Mon Mar 15, 2010 4:44 pm

Your Iridium SIM CARD has two levels of security, PIN1 and PIN2. PIN1 is by default enabled, and PIN2 by default is disabled. With PIN1 enabled, any user is required to enter the correct 4 digit PIN1 number when turning the phone on.

If a user enters the incorrect PIN1, 3 times, the phone will display “BLOCKED”, requiring the entry of the PUK1 code as described below. (NOTE: Entry of the incorrect PIN1 code 10 times will permanently disable the SIM CARD, the phone will then display “BLOCKED – SEE SUPPLIER”. Please contact your supplier to organize the purchase of a new SIM CARD.

If PIN2 has been enabled, and a user enters the incorrect PIN2, 3 times, the phone will display “!BLOCKED”, requiring the entry of the PUK2 code as described below. (NOTE: Entry of the incorrect PIN2 code 10 times will permanently disable the SIM CARD, the phone will then display “BLOCKED – SEE SUPPLIER”. Please contact your supplier to organize the purchase of a new SIM CARD.

If your phone displays “BLOCKED” please do the following…

1. Once you have turned the phone on and it shows BLOCKED press **05*
2. Enter your 8 digit PUK1 CODE and press “OK”.
3. Enter a NEW 4 digit PIN CODE and press “OK”. (NOTE: This PIN code must be different from the last 4 digit PIN code used before the phone was blocked).
4. Re-Enter the same 4 digit PIN CODE and press “OK”.
5. Your phone should now show… “SEARCHING”… then “REGISTERING”… the “IRIDIUM” if it picks up a satellite signal. Once you see the phone show “SEARCHING” you have successfully unblocked your phone.
6. Make sure you have made a note of the new 4 digit PIN CODE you entered at steps 3 & 4. This is you new PIN CODE when you next turn the phone on.
7. If you enter an incorrect PIN CODE or PUK CODE 10 times in a row your SIM CARD will be permanently disabled. You will need to contact supplier to obtain a new SIM CARD for your phone account.

If your phone displays “!BLOCKED” please do the following…

1. Once you have turned the phone on and it shows BLOCKED press **052*
2. Enter your 8 digit PUK2 CODE and press “OK”.

NOTE: If your have entered your PUK CODE correctly and are still experiencing problems, turn the phone OFF, removed the SIM CARD. Take note of the SIM CARD NUMBER and check the PUK CODE details against the SIM CARD details sheet you were given when you purchased the SIM CARD. If you do not have access to the SIM CARD sheet contact your service provider for help. Make sure you know your IRIDIUM PHONE NUMBER and also your SIM CARD number.

(Your SIM CARD sheet shows the SIM ID, VOICE NUMBER, PIN and PUK codes. You can use this sheet to make sure your are using the correct PUK CODES. Please note, PIN CODES are a personal level of security, once changed from the default 1111 or 2222 phone supplier has no way of determining the current PIN. If you have forgotten your PIN CODE and cannot access your phone, you will need to BLOCK the phone purposefully by entering the PIN CODE 3 times incorrectly. You can then use the processes above to UNBLOCK the Sim CARD, and then create a new 4 digit PIN CODE.

Service provider may ask you security questions regarding your account. Please make sure you know as may details about the phone and its account as is possible. The security questions are asked to make sure they are aiding a legitimate user of the satellite phone.
